DEMENTIA MANAGEMENT COURSE

This course aims to equip the caregivers with a basic knowledge of dementia, prevalence of dementia, behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia, person-centred care approach to various intervention strategies, treatments and community resources available for dementia clients.

Participants will also learn to recognize some of the challenging behaviors and to respond appropriately and effectively in challenging situations to provide quality care. Participants will also learn some useful pointers that can help to reduce caregiver stress.

COURSE OBJECTIVE

At the end of the course, trainee is able to :

  • Understand the term “Dementia.”

  • Have an insight to the prevalence, risk factors associated to dementia, types of dementia and the associated symptoms of dementia

  • Discuss the pharmacological options for treatment and non-pharmacological interventions for a person with dementia.

  • Highlight the importance of assisting in in the activities of daily living for a person with dementia.

  • Demonstrate how to respond to some of challenging behaviors o fa person with Dementia.

  • Discuss the benefits of person-centered approaches to the care of people with dementia.

  • Implement strategies to overcome communication barriers when caring for people with dementia.

  • State the importance of home safety when caring for a person with dementia.

  • Implement strategies to overcome caregivers stress and burnout.

  • Identify the community resources available for people with dementia.
